Every 20 minutes of near work, look at something at least 20 feet (6 meters) away for 20 seconds. Relaxes the ciliary muscle that strains during sustained focus and is the most commonly recommended intervention for digital eye strain.
In a 2-week study of 29 symptomatic computer users with automated reminders, following the 20-20-20 rule significantly reduced digital eye strain and dry eye symptoms (p<=0.045), although objective signs were unchanged and the benefit was not maintained one week after stopping.
